A new joint Intel and RAD solution brief available at the Intel Network Builders website details a flexible and cost-effective solution to address service providers’ challenges related to NFV mass deployment.
“There is a compelling case for mass deployment of virtualization at the edge and therefore an urgency to overcome deployment challenges, such as white box hardware costs, VNF licensing (eg. vRouter and vFirewall) and secure remote device provisioning with integration into existing NFV managers and orchestrators,” said Ilan Tevet, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for RAD. “As the Intel-RAD solution brief explains, RAD’s vCPE-OS has been optimized to address these challenges by maximizing performance and throughput while minimizing compute and memory costs as well as operational complexity.
RAD’s vCPE-OS provides all the essential networking capabilities – such as Customer Edge Routing (so there is no need for an additional costly third-party Router VNF), NFVI, and service level assurance. RAD’s vCPE-OS’ lean footprint allows service providers to conserve white box hardware resources, such as CPU cores, RAM and storage, and to use them for new, revenue-generating value added services. In addition, it utilizes high-performance vector packet processing (VPP), combined with SR-IOV and Intel® QAT acceleration, to ensure customer quality of experience (QoE) by maximizing throughput regardless of packet size.

[MITS] MITS Launches the Long Reach Ethernet , LRE, Multi-function Switch, LRE-0103X-FMITS Launches the Long Reach Ethernet , LRE, Multi-function Switch,LRE-0103X-F. It is a lower device (<1.5W power consumption) which provides the long-reach Ethernet (LRE) with stable transmission rate; even in harsh working environment (-20 ℃ ~ 70 ℃) ,it can still perform Fast Ethernet (100/100Mbps) at wire speed Packet exchange performance. LRE-0103X-F's uplink and downlink transmission provides Cat5e/Cat6 RJ-45 interface or coaxial BNC interface (but only one at a time).
In order to ensure fast Ethernet modulation signal quality, different than the traditional Switch network that always with several extenders, the LRE-0103X-F breaks the existing 100-meter Ethernet transmission limitation. Just use the LRE-0103X-F as end to end Ethernet connection, it can easily to make the transmission distance up to 500 meters at 100Mbps bandwidth. It does help the installer reduces the effort and make their life easier.

With the large-scale construction of data centers, the demand for high-speed and high-density network in Switch , Storage & Server are more and more strong and complex. And the heat will be a big issue. And how to reduce the power consumption will be the requested in such kind of application and take a very important role.
The interconnect products currently used in data center racks include : Optical Transceiver, Active Optical Fiber (AOC) & Passive Copper (DAC). Based on actual wiring, these three products are alternately used in the rack (Inner Rack), Rack to Rack and Data Center to Data Center. The huge demand for AOC & DAC comes from the inner Rack and Rack to Rack.
As the speed gets faster and faster, the energy consumption of the optical component is relatively larger, but it can provide a longer distance (about 3-10 meters) and is relatively reliable. However, the price is high and the power consumption is even larger. Because the DAC price is low and low power consumption, so it becomes the first choice in Data Center application. But the transmission distance of the transmission rate of DAC is getting faster, the distance will be even shorter. Therefore, the Active Copper Cable (ACC) is born, the purpose is to increase the distance (like AOC) and lower the power consumption and price (like DAC).
