UMA information:
UMA (Universal Mobile Access) is an expression for the unlimited access for voice and data that can be achieved by combining fixed and mobile networks. This enables unique feature to use the mobile as an IP phone at home/office, by using a dual-mode-handset (GSM/3G + Wi-Fi).
- UMA provides a scalable and secure access to the mobile services which means that the operators can allow millions of subscribers to securely access the core service.
- UMA provides seamless mobility between cellular and IP networks, providing true voice call and data session continuity.
- UMA supports all access technologies thus not requiring a mobile operator to have a relationship with a broadband access provider.
- UMA supports all WLAN environments, like: home, office, hotspots, airports, internet cafés and campus.

Nanoradio Always On Wi-Fi™ is the optimal solution for the growing Fixed Mobile Convergence market.
Nanoradio Wi-Fi in UMA phones
Size and power consumption are the two most important parameters when designing a Wi-Fi UMA phone. The Nanoradio chipset NRX700/2 is designed with the goal to become state-of-the-art. This goal affected all decisions during the design process, and the result is an extremely power efficient solution that maximizes the life-length of the mobile battery.
This is achieved by a new highly integrated hardware design and with an unique software architecture.
The chipset (radio and baseband/MAC ICs) has a stunningly small total footprint of 20 mm2.
Key features:
1. Fully compliant with FMCA Wi-Fi convergence services (Wi-Fi GAN release 2.0)
2. Wi-Fi alliance WMM power save certification
3. Full implementation of Bluetooth Coexistence algorithms
4. Fastest UMA roaming between AP:s on the market
5. WPA 2 certifications (personal and enterprise)
6. Wi-Fi multimedia (WMM) traffic prioritization
