NVE Introduces World's First Monolithic Couplers 【Publish Date:2004-06-14】
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.--June 14, 2004--NVE Corporation (NasdaqSC:NVEC) today announced the introduction of the IsoLoop® IL6xx passive-input coupler family, the world's first true monolithic couplers. IL6xx couplers are the first couplers ever available in die form, making them ideal for use in hybrid modules. Die size for single-channel versions is less than 0.8 square millimeters. The IL610-1 single-channel and IL611-1 two-channel couplers come in 3 mm by 3 mm MSOP8 packages making them the world's smallest packaged couplers. Eight-pin PDIP and SOIC packages are also available.
The new coupler family is based on NVE's patented (U. S. patent numbers 5,831,426; 6,300,617; and others) spintronic giant magnetoresistor (GMR)-based IsoLoop technology. Targeted at optocoupler applications, IL6xx couplers are failsafe and DC-stable, but unlike optocouplers have no intrinsic wear-out mechanism. IL6xx couplers feature unsurpassed performance for optocoupler replacement: 40 MBaud minimum data rate, typical propagation delay of 20 ns, pulse width distortion of 7 ns, and propagation delay skew of 10 ns. With a typical quiescent current of 1.4 mA at 3.3 volts, 2.5 mA at 5 volts, and a maximum input threshold of 10 mA, the devices have very low power dissipation. The devices provide excellent isolation voltage and noise immunity of 2500 Vrms for one minute and 20 kilovolts per microsecond typical common-mode rejection. Performance is specified over the full supply voltage range of 3 V to 5.5 V and temperature range of -40 C to +85 C with no derating.
With a unique coil-drive input, the IL6xx is simple to interface to any input voltage from 0.5 to 400 V through a current-limiting resistor. The input can be configured for inverting or non-inverting output. Two output configurations are available: digital CMOS (the IL6xx); and open-drain transistor (the IL6xxA). The ease of interface, input channel-to-channel isolation, and small size make the new parts ideally suited for programmable logic control (PLC) interface, hybrid modules and other industrial control applications.
